The School was founded as the Richens Academy of Irish Dance in 1968 by Ann Richens, A.D.C.R.G. Starting with small classes in her Beavercreek, Ohio, home, Ann soon began traveling to Columbus, Indianapolis and for a time, St. Louis, to share her passion of Irish dance. Over the years, Ann Richens became an internationally renowned teacher, judge, and judge examiner of Irish dancing.

One of Ann's students, John Timm, won the 993 Senior Men's World Champion. After the win, TImm became Richens' business partner and the school became the Richens/Timm Academy of Irish Dance.

Ann Richens passed away in August, 2011 at the age of 70.

Today, the school continues in the capable hands of John Timm, A.D.C.R.G. and is wife, Heather Timm, A.D.C.R.G.
